![]() ![]() By the way, I can't see a topic "wifi networks" which the one I actually want" " What does "Unable to join network" actually mean?: Fundamentally I want to know what my Apple devices think is missing. And it refuses to stop asking for 2FA even though I'm not blocking any cookies. And the computer wasn't doing anything else – I had just turned it on. None of the several other computers in the house, or my iPhone or iPads, display this behavior. It is probably irrelevant, but maybe not, that this iMac (21.5", just a few years old and running High Sierra) can be infuriating at times, with exasperating idiosyncrasies, including excruciating slowdowns – when I signed on to post this question, and had to enter a verification code sent to my iPhone, it took FIFTEEN SECONDS for all of the digits to appear in the blanks onscreen, one every couple of seconds, after I'd entered them in quick succession on the keypad – as well as sometimes taking the better part of one minute to launch or quit Mail. "Automatically join this network" is checked in System Preferences > Networks. The iMac sees and gets a good signal from my Velop network (one of the nodes is 2 meters away!) and I can switch to it with no difficulty, but I want it to join automatically. Nevertheless, when my iMac awakens from sleep, it regularly joins the cable network. Obviously, since I went to the expense of buying the equipment for a mesh network, and have peripherals attached to it, I want my computers to use it. IMac won't stay with my preferred wifi network There are several wifi networks in my home, one created by my Velop system and two by my cable modem. If not I might try a wifi repeater to extend my main wifi network. Could it be the iPhone and iPad are taking turns trying to "grab" connection and they should be assigned a fixed position in the "connection cue"? Would it maybe help to fiddle with the DNS or IP dress settings on the iPad? As I'm not very familiar with how this works I'm not sure where to begin. I've tried restarting/resetting the airport as well as resetting, dis/re connecting the whole chain to the main router, switching to bridge mode, changing the channels, forgetting the network on iPad, resetting network settings on iPad, disabling auto-join etc. Other times it will state that the password is incorrect, and when I enter it, it will say "unable to join the network". Lot's of times the iPad for instance will connect but not load any pages. This is working fine for my Mac I have set up there mini running High Sierra, with literally no dropouts ever.īut when trying to use my iPad or iPhone in the Patio that is next to the basement I get dropouts multiple times a day. I run a power line adapter from my providers router (that also provides wifi upstairs) then connect the Airport to it's output downstairs. Ipad still sees wifi-network but no internet connection I've been using a 1st generation AirPort Extreme to create a Wifi network in my basement. By the way, I can't see a topic "wifi networks" which the one I actually want Fundamentally I want to know what my Apple devices think is missing. I can't believe the kind of explanation that suggests I should restart my router, as both wifi and ethernet are working perfectly well on all other devices and locations. Indeed if one of these other factors were wrong, for example the password, I know I'd get a different message. It doesn't mean that the LAN has failed, or that the signal is too weak or the password is wrong, since all this can be shown to be working OK. Unable to join network "MyNetwork" (obviously using my real network name)ĭoes anyone know what this actually means. All this works well with all my devices, except that one of the APs drops the connection despite a strong signal, correct SSID and password (I can check this with my TP-link app), and when I try to reconnect either my iPhone or my iPad, I get Due to the shape of the property, I've had to install a couple of access points and a Powerlink connection (all TP-LInk), effectively providing an Ethernet backbone to the network (my Mac is directly attached to the Ethernet).
